About the Course

These classes are designed for secondary school age students with any level of dance experience, complete beginners working alongside advanced dancers in each discipline to encourage and support development at all levels in an age-appropriate setting.

We have 3 open level classes

  • Ballet covers formal ballet training at any level, including barre work, centre work, and repertoire. Although it is a more formal genre we usually inject a modern twist and fun element as we go

  • Contemporary is a ballet-based genre with a modern direction. It includes a lot more creative work that the other styles with an emphasis on developing an individual style and creating dance more independently

  • Tap is a rhythm based genre using the shoes to tap out the rhythms as the student dances. Although it is a very technical genre we use fun activities and dance to develop the required techniques

At this level students are also encouraged to participate in choreography development for performances and events to continue our storytelling and creative themes throughout the school.

What do we do in class...

Classes will usually start at the barre for our warm up and technical exercises before moving into the centre for our stagecraft and performance skills. However, these classes can be a lot more flexible depending on what we are working towards at the time, be it technique focused, creative development of choreography, or performance skills.

And the end of each class we will gather for our reverence (our curtsey or bow) and thank everyone for joining together for the class. Students at this level are expected to initiate their own stretches after class as required.
