About the Course
Aerial hoop and silks are fun and exciting forms of aerial dance and fitness. They involve performing moves and poses in the air using special equipment:
Aerial Hoop (also called a Lyra) is a strong, circular metal hoop that hangs from our free-standing rig (or frame). Dancers learn to sit, stand, and pose inside and around the hoop while it gently spins or stays still.
Aerial Silks are two long pieces of fabric that hang from the rig. Students learn how to climb, wrap, swing, and pose in the fabric, gradually building strength, control, and confidence.
Children’s classes run all year during term time alongside the dance timetable.
Adult classes are run in short courses of 5-6 week duration.
What do we do in class...
All of our classes start with a warm up to ensure our muscles are ready for the activity. We will then complete relevant strengthening exercises before practising our skills on the hoop or silks.
We usually alternate the hoop and silks each week but will sometimes focus on one or the other for a few weeks if we are trying to reach a certain goal, like a specific skill, performance or medal test.
At the end of each class we will cool down and stretch to prevent soreness and stiffness and increase our flexibility.
